Well done Becca. This is a great draft. Your mes and pace are very effective. I particularly like the use of the candle and the element of 'watching' through the camera. There are a few lip syncing issues that need tweaking and one of the first shots of Milly is a little long. Just remember that shot movement is assessed too and most of your shots are static. Keep up the good work.

Digipack draft

Advert draft

Digipack construction

Focus group - audience feedback

I showed my focus group the images and most people agreed that they preferred the shot of Ben's close up face. We also decided that black and white for the cover wasn't as effective as the coloured but slightly desaturated picture.
They also decided that a black and white picture of the band would work the best as it sets the edgy and sophisticated mood.
They also liked the idea of me using two black and white pictures and two coloured but desaturated pictures to create a balance but also a dark mood. As well as having two in focus pictures and two blurred pictures.

Filming - Day two and Editing

I had similar problems with the filming as I did on the first day of filming, I had assumed the space we had was bigger than it actually was. The backdrop I was originally going to use was made from card (I was told it was just a black backdrop) though luckily we had a larger blue backdrop as backup, however that was still quite small, though a few tweaks and crops on final cut pro should make the shots look a lot neater a more professional. At least they'll give the impression of a very intimate performance, which fits the personal aspects of the song.
The band were very cooporative and easy to direct, as well as having has learned the music for me prior to make the performance way more realistic.
Overall it was a simple day filming with the only problem being the small space.

Mrs D

These pictures look great. Try and get some audience feedback on your images. Keep up the good work.

digipack artwork images

I like the idea of having some of the images slightly blurred to give them a darker, rougher and much more emotionally raw feeling - not quite a perfect image.
The band image will not be used for the cover but will be used in the digipack. I am going to experiment with the images of the camera and Ben's face and then see which I like better.
They both relate to the video, which promotes the song, album and video. The images also relate to the album title "Nude" as the camera connotes being able to see right through someone, it can be used to analyse and look deeply at more personal sides of people. Where as the picture of Ben is very close up, showing a vulnerability and a closeness to his emotions.

Advert 2

I much prefer the layout of this ad as well as the sizing. I've made the record lable logo smaller and on the same line as the website (also a very similar size) this is so that the lable is still being advertised but in a way that is more subtle, promoting the fact that this is the bands music and it isn't being churned out by the lable. The use of black throughout the digipack and advert also are meant to be ironic to add to the dark and twisted nature of some of the songs and tracks.

The album artwork is central to again make sure the audience pay attention to what it looks like and will keep the image in their mind for when they come to purchase it.

Mrs D

This is coming together Becca. I like the font style and colour. Layout works well - although it will be easier to provide specific feedback once the images are in. You have chosen black - are you being ironic/making a statement as the album is called nude? Make sure you know why you are making these choices and how it impacts on the promotion of the artist.

Advert one

The font is the same as that used on the album cover to again make sure they link. I think I will need to experiment with placement, sizing and of course the grey box is where the album artwork will go. I've made the artist name, album title and date of release the biggest as they are the main things I need the audience to remember for them to be able to purchase the album.

Digipack construction 3

I have decided to go back to my original idea of keeping the album name named after the main single and track I am promoting "Nude". Many artists do like to have "title tracks" for albums. For example, Pulp - This is Hardcore. I have chosen to do this as it fits into the conventions and also promotes the single as well as the album. The album artwork will also relate to the video visuals. This is because I want them all to link together to have the image of this album and tracks related very specific and iconic.

The name of the album also related to the track list as the songs will be quite stripped back, personal and dark (which relates to the colours) like "closer" for example. The simpleness of the fonts show a sophistication to the artists attitude towards the music with I found in my analysis on the digipacks with Nirvana and Gorillaz. This is also shown in the simple black and white. I also added a bonus track as I think that adds to the promotional feature, giving the audience the impression they are getting more than usual with this artist.

digipack construction 1

This is a very rough draft of my digipack. I still need to add images and information but I thought I should show the basic skeleton of the construction.

Record lable logo

I wanted something sophisticated and simple, yet still partcially interesting to look at. I have decided to choose the second logo on the left.

Mrs D

There are some great reflections here Becca. Well done. I look forward to seeing some rough cuts soon.

Day one of filming

I collected the camera, dolly and tripod from school before and then went to my grandad's to collect the lighting. When I got back my main girl and boy actors were waiting for me so I had to quickly set up everything.

I started with taking a few pictures for my digipack and future props for the video.

Filming was quite easy, except I did have to compromise a few shots due to needing a wider lens and filming it from a study higher angle for the establishing shots. I also found that in my sketches I have overestimated the size of my room so some of the panning shots with the dolly were hard to get smooth and navigate throughout the room.

Millie and Ben were really professional and easy to direct so I was very pleased with my casting. However, I may have to re-shoot some of the shots of Ben lip-syncing as he found it hard to grasp the lyrics. I'm excited to see some of the detailed shots of the smoke and such as I think they'll be really effective, especially with the lighting.

I need to look over all the footage but I’m confident that most of the room footage is complete. I just need to shoot a couple more shots of the room and details of the room.

Title font choices

I like the look of Orator STD, Courier New and Arial though I will have to experiment with these fonts with the image to see what looks best.
